BRICK HOUSE

Brick House was envisioned as a quiet cottage set on a two-ground plot in the serene suburbs of Chrompet, Chennai. The young clients—a couple with a son—wanted to build their home on one plot and develop an orchard on the other.

Given that the long side of the plot abutted the road, we placed the house and orchard side by side—ensuring that the home is always perceived alongside the lush green expanse. The goal was to create a cozy two-storey home that fully embraced the site’s calm surroundings, abundant sunlight, and low noise levels.

A foyer inspired by traditional thinnais and internal courts reminiscent of old courtyard homes bring nature into the living spaces. As the clients didn’t believe in a separate interior design approach, we chose an honest expression of materials—using exposed brick to enhance the home’s earthy aesthetic.

Equal focus was given to the orchard, making the house feel like it belongs to the landscape—a red-brick structure nestled among plants, with bees and butterflies buzzing all around.
